Everyday life & relationships
Couples therapy in California & New York
Space to understand each other, talk through recurring friction, and approach your relationship with more intention.
A conversation you can have together
You do not have to wait for a relationship to reach a breaking point to ask about couples therapy. You may want help with a conversation that keeps going nowhere, changing responsibilities, feeling disconnected, or finding time for your relationship during a busy season.
Dr. Tina Halabian offers couples therapy with attention to both partners’ experiences. Her work incorporates the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy. The consultation is a place to ask how that approach would relate to your concerns and what working together might involve.
Reasons partners reach out
Communication & recurring disagreements
Understanding what happens when one person pushes for a conversation and the other pulls away; finding a clearer way to discuss a specific issue.
Connection & changing expectations
Making room for closeness, discussing boundaries, and navigating work pressures, family involvement, or a new chapter together.
What to discuss before starting
An introductory consultation can cover what each of you hopes will change, previous experiences with therapy, scheduling, and whether joint sessions fit your situation. The aim is not to determine who is right before you begin, but to understand the questions you are bringing.
Ask how privacy, individual contact with the therapist, and communication between sessions are handled. For telehealth, discuss a private setting, a reliable connection, and where each participant will be located. Eligibility and practical arrangements need to be confirmed for both partners.
Common questions
Do we need to be in a crisis?
No. You can seek support for communication, connection, everyday disagreements, or a transition. Fit and goals are discussed during consultation.
Can we attend if we are in different places?
Please discuss this before booking. Dr. Halabian provides telehealth to clients located in California or New York; both participants’ locations and the suitability of the arrangement must be confirmed.
Can I start on my own?
You can inquire about individual therapy to explore your own experiences and choices in relationships. Individual work and couples work have different agreements; discuss the appropriate arrangement directly.
Is couples therapy right for every relationship?
No single format fits everyone. If speaking openly with a partner would put you at risk or you are experiencing coercion or violence, seek confidential individual support to discuss safety and appropriate options.
